In the wake of his parents' tragic deaths in a house fire, fourteen-year-old Richard Elauved has been sent to live with his aunt and uncle in the remote, insular town of Ballantyne. Jo Nesbø rozhodně patří k autorům, které asi nemá smysl nějak obšírněji představovat. Král severské detektivky a jeden z celosvětově nejznámějších autorů si získal velmi širokou čtenářskou základnu i u nás. Není proto divu, že je každá jeho novinka velmi široce očekávána. O to hůře se mi pak přiznává, že jsem od něj donedávna nic nečetl. To se ale změnilo v momentě, kdy vyšel Noční dům. Jde totiž o žánrový úkrok směrem k nadpřirozenému hororu. Jelikož tento žánr mám rád, bral jsem to jako znamení a přečetl si Nesbøho novinku, jež může být i brána jako pocta Stephenu Kingovi. Jak se vydařil zamotaný příběh problémového teenagera, snažícího se přijít na kloub tajemným zmizením a úmrtím svých spolužáků?
